When to be concerned about my Baby Sleep?
When your baby isn’t sleeping well, the doubts can come fast:
Maybe I hold him too much.
Maybe I’m not holding him enough.
Maybe I’m too anxious and my baby feels it.
Maybe we’re just doing something wrong.
Sound familiar?
It’s so easy to go down that road — especially when you’re exhausted and in a world where sleep training advice is everywhere.
When you go online to ask " what can be the medical reasons for my baby bad sleep", instead of red flags to be aware of or signs to look for, the first things to come up will be parenting advice, sleep schedules and list of “do's and don't”.
And after all of that investigation about what you could be doing “right” or “wrong,” arrive that tiny line: “If you have any doubts or concerns about your baby’s health, seek for medical attention.”
A line that will leave you with the idea that you must first prove you’re doing everything right—before you’re allowed to ask for help.
A story that speak for itself
A family once came to me for a Thalasso Baby Bath. They said it was just a little “spa treat” for their baby boy. They told me everything was doing great at home, and how blessed they were to have "such a good baby"
This is until what the bath revealed. Their little one was struggling a bit more than what we had expected based on what they had described to me.
So after the session, I let them go with a few things to try at home. And the very next day, I received a text thanking me — because their boy had slept up to 3 hours in a row, (only)... for the first time.
Their one-month son was waking up every hour. And they've been told " babies don't sleep" and "babies are hard", so they believed it, because no room was made for them to question it or complain about it.
In a world obsessed with “teaching” babies to sleep — perfecting bedtime routines, avoiding “bad” sleep associations, tracking wake windows, and putting your baby “drowsy but awake” — underlying physical root causes for sleep problem get easily overlooked, and unfortunately unnadressed.
WHEN TO ASK FOR YOUR DOCTOR OPINION?
When you are seeking help to address your baby’s sleep issues, it’s important to first rule out any potential medical causes and eliminate physical issues before stepping into behavioral solutions or questioning you parenting with tips.
